Lemnos

The city of Myrina
The heart of Lemnos beats in its capital, the idyllic Myrina, which lies between two creeks: the cosmopolitan Romeikos (Greek) Seashore and Turkish Seashore or Port, which is washed by the sea of Nea Madytos and surrounded by the commercial and Venetian port.

As capital of the island, it had already started to flourish since Turkish domination. So, Turkish garrison and families of Turks were living nearby the fort –that’s why it is called Turkish Seashore.

The other side of the castle, which was settled by Greeks, around the Cathedral and their church, was called Romeikos Seashore. Here, you will be under the impression that you struck upon another world.

Indeed, loafing about the mansions and sweet-smelling yards, passing and shopping through a vivid shopping place and having a coffee or snack break in centre haunts constitute a new, sometimes noble sometimes simple, forgettable pure sense.
